Antonio AGUADO

Full Professor | PhD MSc BSc in Civil Engineering

Dr. Antonio Aguado de Cea got the degree of Civil Engineer in 1974 from the Universidad of Cantabria and his PhD in in 1980 from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). He is a full professor at the UPC since 1987.

His research first focused on the non-linear analysis of concrete structures and then evolved towards other areas such as concrete dams, concrete technology and value analysis. He introduced special types of concrete in the study plans at the university and was the pioneer in the research of new types of concrete such as polymer concrete, porous concrete, high performance concrete among others and its implementation in building and civil engineering projects. Recently, he has been particularly devoted to the study of fibre reinforced concrete, a field in which his contribution is significant in the proposal of constitutive models and development of testing methods for the quality control (mechanical test, non-destructive methods, etc.).
All his work is reflected in numerous articles in international indexed journals and doctoral theses. Regarding fibre reinforced concrete, he was the coordinator of the Annex 14 of the EHE-08 (Spanish code for Structural Concrete) which provides recommendations for the design of these types of concrete
