Gonzalo RAMOS
Full Professor | PhD MSc BSc in Civil Engineering
Dr. Gonzalo Ramos (Spain, 1965) got his 6-year program degree in Civil Engineer (1990) from Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTECH (Spain) and his PhD (1994) from BarcelonaTECH. At the moment, he is Full Professor in the School of Civil Engineering in Barcelona, BarcelonaTech (Spain), where he teaches Construction Engineering. His area of expertise is Design and Construction of Concrete Bridges and Structures, including Tunnels and Underground Structures. He has been involved in 20 research projects funded by the European Comission and the Spanish Government, having coordinated more than half of them. Visiting Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin in 1992.
Research interests include:
- Analysis, Design and Construction of Concrete Bridges, specially Externally Prestressed Segmental Bridges.
- Structural Design of TBM and Cut and Cover tunnels.
- Structural Design and Construction of Fiber Reinforced Concrete Elements, such as tunnel segments.
- Structural Design and Construction of Underground Structures, such as Large Stations.
- Study of the effects of Tunnel Construction on surrounding Structures.
- Analysis, Design and Construction of Concrete Bridges, specially Externally Prestressed Segmental Bridges.

From 1994 on, he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in the Civil Engineering School of Barcelona, UPC BarcelonaTech. Topic of his teaching includes Bridge Design and Construction Methods and Planning of Civil Infrastructure. He has published several papers for international conferences about active learning and academic curriculum development..
He is member of ACHE (Spanish –Association of Structural Engineering), ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers), IABMAS (International Association for Bridge Maintenance and Safety), CICCP (Spanish Civil Engineers Association), APEGA (Association of Professional Engineers of Alberta) and PEO (Professional Engineers Ontario)..
He got the 1997 Doctoral Extraordinary Award. Civil Engineering. UPC; Award to the best doctoral dissertation of the School of Civil Engineering, Barcelona, Spain.
