Irene JOSA


Postdoctoral researcher | PhD MSc BSc in Civil Engineering


Dr. Irene Josa received her BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia in 2014, 2017 and 2021, as well as a MSc in Structural Engineering from Tongji University in 2016. At the moment, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of the Polytechnic University of Catalona (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain. She did her PhD at UPC on social aspects of civil engineering, which involved a research stay at LSE Cities.


Irene’s research is focused on sustainability assessment of various infrastructure systems. She also works on life-cycle assessment of civil engineering projects.

Currently, Irene is teaching in the areas of eco-materials, sustainable construction, and socio-economic impacts. .

Irene is a member of the International Federation of Structural Concrete — fib since 2021. There, she is part of the Task Group 6.3 - Sustainability of structures with precast elements.
